With its home in Casa Sfatului, one of the most significant historic structures in Brasov, the Museum of History gives the visitor a glimpse into the life of Brasov County in the 1800s-1900s. The basement displays a predominately archeological display of Palaeolithic, the Neolithic, the Bronze Age and the early Iron Age. The ground floor is a labyrinth maze of rooms, exhibiting tools for printing and engraving, weapons and armor, and an extensive display of some of the infamous Medieval iron work – from the decorative arabesque and engraved fixtures to the heavy work implements. There is even an installation from a pharmacy and medical equipment from the 1800s.

Ascending the narrow curving staircase to the upper floor, visitors can’t help but marvel at the building itself, with arched ceilings, original iron doors, carved stone doorways, and mosaic stone floors. Exhibits on this floor are oriented toward printed materials, as the first Romanian printing press was brought to Brasov by Johannes Honterus. A variety of advertising posters, books, and historical documents line the walls. There is a small display of ceramics and photos of villages in the county.”

The Spinner’s Bastion and the Black Tower also serve as space for permanent exhibitions of the Museum of History. The Spinner’s Bastion hosts an exhibition on the numerous fortifications in the County of Braşov, as well as a scale model of the city of Braşov as it looked in the 15th c. The “Weapons and Fire Weapons” exhibition of the Black Tower displays a large number of weapons as part of the defensive system employed by the locals during the Ottoman and Tartar attacks.

All exhibits are explained in English and in German.
